Join the Vision 11:00am-12:15 p.m. Sundays (Starts Aug. 10th and lasts 4 Weeks) Community Building, upstairs in the Youth Lounge
"Join the Vision" is an opportunity for visitors and persons who have recently joined Bulverde United Methodist Church (BUMC) to learn about what we believe as a congregation, what we stand for, what motivates us and how we are organized. Here are some of the things that you will learn about BUMC:
● Our purpose as a church ● Our mission of healing the nations ● Our organization ● Our core values and beliefs ● Our expectations of our "partners in ministry"
Adult Sunday School Classes (Year Round)
Covenant Class 9:45-11:00 a.m. Youth Lounge, upstairs in the Community Building This class learns and laughs together while using video resources, book studies, and bible passages. No prior class experience is necessary. All ages, singles and couples are welcome.
Seekers Class 9:45-11:00 a.m. Fellowship Hall, Holy Grounds room This class uses a bible study format while incorporating video series featuring teachers such as Ray VanderLaan. Some knowledge of the bible is helpful but not required. All are welcome.
Son Rise Fellowship 11:00-Noon Fellowship Hall, UMW room This is an interactive bible study based on the book "3:16", Max Lucado's message of John 3:16. Timeless and powerful, these words proclaim a message of love and a promise of life. One sentence, softly spoken nearly two thousand years ago, is just as relevant today as when Jesus first uttered it. No prior class experience is required. All ages, singles and couples are welcome.
Providence Class 11:00-Noon Fellowship Hall, Holy Grounds room This class welcomes all adults, especially those with school-aged children. The group focuses on what it means to be a Disciple for Jesus Christ – in our relationships, families, and our church. No prior class experience is necessary.
Second Half 11:00-Noon Upstairs in the Community Building This is a unique interactive teaching and worship experience, geared for seekers and experienced attendees. It is structured as a continuation of the teaching or sermon series following the SonRise contemporary worship services. These sessions are run by lay leaders and are held at 11:11. We will also offer a unique children's Sunday school class during this time. Facilitator: Jerry Godwin.
2008-2009 On-line registration, click here. Introduction: Seekers Academy is part of the adult discipleship ministry of Bulverde United Methodist Church. The classes listed below begin in September 2008 and offer a Christian Education opportunity for persons who are just beginning their faith walk as well as those who are long-time students of God’s Word. We invite you to come and find your place, joining others in the rewarding study of the Christian faith. For information on registration for the Seekers Academy classes, please see the section at the bottom of this web page. Group Covenant: A commitment to attend each session is strongly encouraged. Classes depend upon strong class participation and it is in this time that real transformation in Christ often occurs. Classes and small groups are encouraged to worship together, pray together, care for one another in Christian love and serve together in ministry and mission. Childcare: Childcare is available for all the classes that are offered. Please indicate your child care needs ahead of time by contacting the church office at 830-980-7745.
Sunday
Disciple I 9:45-11:00 a.m. Location TBD Becoming disciples through Bible study gives equal time to both the Old and New Testaments, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God. This study requires reading large portions of Scripture each week and is based on careful study and preparation. During the course of thirty-four weeks, groups will move through the biblical stories of Creation to the New Jerusalem. The titles of the sessions along with theme words, theme verses, and major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of the participants. The principal Scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. The start date for this study is September 21, 2008. The cost of the study manual is $33. Healing Ministry of Jesus 7:00-8:30 p.m. This Bible study is a study of Jesus' individual healing encounters as recorded in the Gospels. We will dig into what the Scriptures say and reflect on the meanings and implications. We will look specifically at what the bible says (who, what, where, when) so that each of the passages can be compared. We will also dig into the unique meanings of each encounter to better understand what it meant to the people then and what it means in our lives today. This study will start on September 8, 2008. Workbook fee is $5. Facilitator: Bob Barrar.

Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study 9:30-11:00 a.m. Fellowship Hall, Holy Grounds Room This is one of our longest running Bible Study groups. Starting on September 23, 2008, we will begin a study by James W. Moore called “Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned, But I Have Several Excellent Excuses.” The cost of the book is $14. This group invites all women that desire a weekday opportunity for study and fellowship. Facilitator: Barbara Verdoorn.

Women's Bible Study 6:30-8:30 p.m. Youth Lounge 2, Community Building This study focuses on the Beth Moore study, "When Godly People Do Ungodly Things." It examines why devoted followers of Christ can fall into the traps of Satan. Out of Beth's genuine, broken-hearted concern comes this biblical guide to authentic repentance and restoration. The 8-10 week class will begin September 17, 2008. The structure of the class is one hour of discussion on the prior week's bible study and one hour CD session from Beth. Childcare is provided. Cost for the accompanying study guide is approximately $15. Facilitators: Pam Vandermey-Collins and Jennifer Clarke.
Men's Evening Bible Study Group 7:00-8:30 p.m. Room 203, Children & Youth Building A focused study of the basic principles of our Christian faith as found in Paul's Letter to the Romans. Concepts such as Justification by Faith and Sanctification will be discussed. Further, the group will explore the impact of such men as Augustine, Martin Luther, and John Wesley and see how they contributed to a spiritual and social revival that still influences our lives today. Facilitator: Chuck Steube.
Men’s Fraternity-The Quest for Authentic Manhood 7:00-9:00 p.m. Fellowship Hall This is a weekly meeting for men who are interested in joining a group which explores Christian life issues from the masculine perspective. Three studies will be offered beginning on September 17, 2008: "The Quest for Authentic Manhood," "Winning at Work & Home," and "The Great Adventure." The cost of a workbook is $10 per study. This class is open to all men from the community.
The Truth Project 7:00-9:00 p.m. John Douglass' residence The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This home study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. The start date will be announced at a later time. Facilitator: John Douglass.
Thursday
First Place 4 Health 7:00-8:30 p.m. Room 201, Children & Youth Building First Place 4 Health is a reliable, proven method of weight loss and healthy living. The tremendous success of First Place 4 Health is due to its biblical approach to weight loss and overall health management, which puts Christ first and improves every area of a person's life. First Place 4 Health focuses on: Christ-centered priorities (Bible study, prayer and Scripture memory); choices for health (addressing the whole person - emotions, mind, body and spirit); and community (support and accountability through small groups). First Place 4 Health offers a series of Bible studies. These studies address many issues of everyday life and provide opportunities for growth in Christ. Members complete a weekly Bible study which, combined with prayer and Scripture reading, helps to impart God's strength, empowering members to overcome temptation and make long-lasting lifestyle changes. Financial Peace University Spring 2009 7:00-9:00 p.m. In Financial Peace University, you will learn how to put together a spending plan that really works; step by step how to get out of debt; the security of an emergency fund; to remove the stress that comes with financial problems; the secret to improving your marriage and much more. Cost of materials is $89. Facilitator: Sharon (Swift) Becker
F.A.C.E. Groups (Fellowship, Accountability, Compassion, Education) Home-Based Discipleship Groups Bulverde United Methodist Church invites you into the community of believers by practicing discipleship in small groups. Our groups seek to be faithful in “making disciples in the name of Jesus Christ.” We encourage you to start and join small FACE groups hosted in leaders’ homes that practice the discipleship model of Up/In/Out, as a component of praise, study and service in the midst of living life with other Christians. If you desire to lead or join in a new group, call Chuck Steube (830-980-7652) or Tim Lucas (830-438-4661) for more information.
