Connectionalism at its best

From July 31 through August 2nd the congregations of Highland Terrace UMC and Bulverde UMC joined together.  They joined together to experience Vacation Bible School as one body.  The person-power and resources were provide by Bulverde United Methodist Church, the space was provided by Highland Terrace.  But the two church shared Vacation Bible School together.  “Our servant ministers brought their children to Highland Terrace and what I noticed from the first night on was the children we attracted from the community and the BUMC children were experiencing VBS together,” said Bulverde pastor Mark Deaton.  “It has been my experience, in other outreaches like this, that one group has ministry done to them in these settings, but that was not the case these children were one,” Deaton continued.  Melanie Miner pastor of Highland Terrace expressed that the South San Antonio church did not have the resources to offer Christ to the children of her neighborhood by themselves.  With the connection of United Methodist Churches this event was a great success.  The two churches are making plans to “Offer Christ to All,” in the future continuing this partnership.
